East Mediterranean Express Service Shipping and Transport S.A. (EMES) was established within Arkas as a distinct, autonomous entity in order to accomplish the first Turkish-flagged container transportation in Turkey. Its philosophy is always to provide the best service with a workforce expert in their field.

EMES was founded in July 1996 as part of the Arkas Group. EMES was the first private sector container carrrier in Turkey to fly the Turkish flag. Having the 62 years of experience of Arkas Group of Companies in transportation behind it, EMES provides regular weekly services between Black Sea and Mediterranean Ports with its fleet of 25 vessels, which includes vessels belonging to Arkas.

EMES has started its working life as a Feeder service provider which transports cargoes to, and unloads them from, large tonnage vessels that do not call Turkish ports. Today it also provides Liner services with its container park of around 56.000 TEU containing specific equipments like “open top”, “high cube”, “flatrack", "paletwide" and “reefer” as well in order to meet the demands of export and import created by the developing and growing market.

Since there are no cabotage limitations for services provided by Turkish vessels, container transportation could be done safely betweenTurkish ports.
